The Yara Dr Baynton’s 6 Hour Remedy
The Burrup Mountain Bike Club hosts the annual Doctor Baynton’s 6 Hour Remedy Mountain Bike
Race usually in June to take advantage of the cooler weather. The event typically runs from 1500hrs
until 2100hrs with the start/finish and event village at Karratha BMX Track on Rosemary Road,
The event concludes with presentations and a social post-race wind down.
Food and drinks are normally available at the event village.
Specific event details are released closer to the event date.
HOW IT WORKS
The object of the race is to ride as many laps of the course as possible in the time allotted. Riders
can participate as individuals or in teams.
If you are riding in a team of 2 or more there is no set formula. Your team gets to choose who rides
when, how many laps and who is supplying the refreshments.
Categories for the 6 Hour Remedy normally include Solo Female & Male, Solo Veteran Female &
Male, Duo Female, Male & Mixed, Teams of up to 4 riders Junior, Female, Male & Mixed and Social
Teams of up to 6 riders.
Each team is encouraged to have a team name and come up with a theme or costume. There are
prizes for the team that has the best outfits.
The Dr Baynton’s 6 Hour Remedy Course consists of a loop or series of loops with distances between
6 and 10 kilometres.
A feed station will be available in the transition area and riders/teams can establish camp in the
event village. Vehicle movement into and out of the village is restricted to ensure rider and sectator
safety. Vehicles will be able to remain in the village area but will have to do so for the duration of
the race unless in dire emergency.
Parts of this have been included in previous 6 Hour courses. Karratha riding tends to be hard on
tyres with lots of sharp-edged rocks. Whether riding tubes or tubeless the great majority are also
running with sealant. Most riders are on dual suspension bikes.
Registration typically opens 6 weeks prior to the event and is promoted on Facebook, our website
www.burrupmtb.com and via email to members and past competitors.
Prize money and prizes are awarded. These are dependent on the level of sponsorship each event
